1961 Soviet design. Same design as the RPK Machine Gun, with a more powerful round. Used on a bipod as a light machine gun (PK) or used on a tripod as a heavy machine gun (PKS - see below). The PK had its sliding feed mechanism replaced with a lever feed mechanism to prevent cartridge case rupture. Production was improved by stamp-welding the receiver. The mount was designed by Samozhenkov.
Use: Hungarian Armed forces: general service.

PK modified for tank use in 1962. Barrel weight was increased 1.2kg, Gas regulator was redesigned to lower discharged powder gases entering the tank, Optical sight was installed, Butt removed, Electric trigger installed for remote operation.
