Production of an ingenious variant of the AK-74 began in 1981 under the designation NGM (or NGM-81). Made only with a fixed butt and a wooden fore-end, the NGM had a chromium-lined bore. The NGM-81 has been offered for export.
A version of this gun was made with a metal folding stock with the "NGV" designation.
